Environmental Resources

Promoting local business is a key effort in the ecotourism efforts of any area. The businesses and organizations of West Yellowstone and the surrounding areas are working together to preserve the natural resources that make this one of America's most treasured vacation destinations.

The ecotourism movement throughout Yellowstone and the surrounding regions has been carried out by tour operators, lodging companies and eco friendly organizations that seek to protect our natural resources. Many companies can be on either side of the fence when it comes to deciding if they are an ecotourism based business versus having focus on sustainable tourism. But when it comes down to it, both make the world of difference no matter what choice is made. The businesses with the privilege to operate within the boarders of Yellowstone National Park do so with the intent and purpose of leaving little to no trace of their presence.

Sustainable Tourism, in its entirety, is focused on sustaining and supporting the natural environment and culture through development and education to generate income and employment for the local community.

Ecotourism is a form of sustainable travel focusing more on specific areas where natural beauty and cultural heritage tend to be the main attraction. Businesses with programs focused on minimization of their impact on the natural environment can consider themselves part of the ecotourism industry.
