The Gallatin River is clean and full of fish, one of Montana's most magnificent blue ribbon rainbow, Yellowstone cutthroat, and brown trout streams, and a favorite destination of paddlers, anglers and families. Flowing from the northwest from extreme Northwest Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park into Montana. Eventually the river becomes the Missouri. Within Wyoming the river is contained entirely with the wilderness of the National Park. The Gallatin River consists of two forks, the East Gallatin and the larger West Gallatin. The Gallatins aquatic insect population is consistent with most western trout streams. Such as: stone flies, midges, cadis, salmon flies and the all mayfly families. In late summer the hoppers variations start to produce and fall is the time to start throwing larger streamer patterns.
The Gallatin river is open for Winter Fishing as well larger streamers such as JJ specials work great along with midsize stone fly nymphs with bead head droppers.
You wont be disappointed if you come to Gallatin to go fishing its hard to get skunked.
