With its close proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, West Yellowstone
is a prime departure point for wildlife viewing and photography tours. This amazing ecosystem
covers 14 million acres, including seven national forests and three national wildlife refuges.
Studies reveal that over 40,000 large mammals inhabit the region. During the summer months,
visitors are likely to view many of the different species in their travels and adventures in the region.
During winter, some animals migrate to warmer areas while others , such as bears, ground squirrels,
and marmots hibernate instead. Numerous species, such as bald eagles, bison, mule deer, moose, coyotes,
and elk, simply perservere through the long winter months until spring arrives. No matter what time of
year your travels bring you to the region, there are plenty of opportunities to view the amazing wildlife
of the region.
