Yellowstone Closed for the Winter
The road to Yellowstone National Park will re-open in May to vehicles, but if you are disappointed that you missed your opportunity for snowmobiling this winter, all is not lost.
Trails exist all around West Yellowstone, and opportunities still exist in Jackson Hole, which has been blessed with a TON of snow this year. My favorite ride in Jackson is down in Grey's River, where opportunities exist for wildlife and for fantastic off trail powder riding.

Everything wonderful about West Yellowstone
I just pulled this info from West Yellowstone's Chamber of Commerce. It outlines the reason why West Yellowstone is not just a gateway community of Yellowstone National Park, but a destination in and of itself. It is definitely a nice summary of things to do while in the West Yellowstone Area.
Everything wonderful about West Yellowstone!
West Yellowstone is not just the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Did you know West Yellowstone ...
-is celebrating its 100-Year Anniversary in 2008. On June 11th, 2008, the first trainload of visitors to Yellowstone National Park arrived at the site of what was to become West Yellowstone.
-is an entire gateway community offering full lodging, restaurant, activities, and services thus preserving and protecting parkland.
-is the Oregon Short Line Terminus Historic District featuring historic railroad buildings in a two-block area that serviced millions of visitors from all over the world.
-has more than 600 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in and around the park and town.
-is the only place to offer three “Spam Cup” races during the winter.
-is the training ground for international Nordic and biathlon cross-country skiers.
-is the place where a spring “around the block” event refers to a 60-mile bike tour. Or, a fall event that offers a bike ride to Old Faithful and back.
-is the only place where anyone can join the actual 4th of July Parade instead of sitting on the sidelines, and later watch the fireworks explode in brilliant colors against a background of dark purple mountains.
-is truly a place with something for everyone where you choose from hiking, biking, fly fish, float or boat fish, horseback riding, boating, walking, plays, museums, live animals, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling or just relaxing.

Where the Painted Buffalo Roam
This summer, painted buffalo will roam the streets of West Yellowstone again, giving visitors opportunities to see western and wildlife art painted on the side of buffalo. Or, buffalo sculptures I should say.
This project was an effort by Yellowstone Economic Development Council to encourage visitors to the area to explore West Yellowstone. Trail maps are given out to visitors at participating locations and there are incentives to see all the buffalo.
Last summer 26 painted buffalo roamed West Yellowstone, but 10 more are expected to emerge this Spring! Check out this site for more info. Now is a great time to start planning a vacation to the area, including West Yellowstone!

Dung and Dunger
I came across this website today, Dung and Dunger...these guys operate out of Idaho and turn Bison dung into paper that they than make prints, bookmarks (skid marks as they like to call them) and even Christmas ornaments out of.
This is a one of a kind Yellowstone keepsake to say the least. Check them out here, and other regional goods/specialty items for Yellowstone area here.
