Ashton, Idaho Centennial
Ashton was created when the Oregon Short Line Railroad decided to use an 1881 survey for the tracks to West Yellowstone. Ashton was named for William Ashton who was the chief engineer of the Oregon Short Line Railroad. On February 14, 1906 the residents had a huge party celebrating the arrival of the railroad. When the village had 200 residents, and requirements were satisfied, the Village of Ashton was incorporated on July 11, 1906.
Come join us in Ashton for our centennial celebration during the week of July 4-11, 2006. Some of the events during the week are: mountain man rendezvous, craft and antique show, dutch oven cook-off, buffalo BBQ, and an operetta. We will also be holding our usual Fourth of July parade. There will be centennial coins and lapel pins to purchase. For more information call (208) 652-3987.
